The Maryland-native went into beast mode this weekend and won a staggering $376k in 2,460 hands on PokerStars.

Galfond’s primary victim was Dutch pro Sander “Berndsen12” Berndsen who picked up $631k last week.

Right from the start, Galfond appeared to have Berndsen12’s number as he was dominating the $100/$200 heads-up PLO games they were playing.

After getting stuck, Berndsen12 asked Galfond to raise the stakes to $200/$400. He wrote this in the PokerStars chatbox:

“Berndsen12: convincing Phil Galfond to play higher, man this is the biggest moment of my life.”

The change of stakes did nothing to improve Berndsen12’s campaign and he finally called it quits, having dusted off $308k this weekend.

Amazingly Berndsen12 also played Isildur1 this weekend and actually won several hundred thousand from the Swede but still ended up down over the last few days.

When the dust had settled Galfond was easily the biggest winner with nearly $400k in profit.

Just a week into the New Year, Galfond typed out a blog that outlined his new approach to poker.

Galfond mentioned that he was going to try and be more accessible to media and players and help grow the game.

So far he’s lived up to his word with some free poker strategy and even a recent video on how he feels online poker rooms should operate.

Other big winners over the weekend included patpatman (+$312k), arbianight (+208k), 0Human0 (+$120k) and ragen70 (+$109k).

Berndsen12 actually escaped the biggest loser distinction as Kanu7 got hammered in the $50/$100 No-Limit Hold'em games against patpatman and takechip. He lost a total of $313k.

Viktor “Isildur1” Blom continued his recent downswing since winning the PCA Super High Roller by dumping a total of $288k into the high stakes games.

Ben86 (-$113k) and oogee (-$237k) rounded out the top five biggest losers.

For more information be sure to check our online poker stats section but in the meantime here’s a look at one of the biggest hands between Galfond and Berndsen12.
