1) Former Poker Player Behind Breakout Flower Distributor
Since Black Friday in 2011 a large number of poker players in the USA have transitioned into other careers.
Here’s the thing: Some of them have been very successful.
This week Fast Company magazine featured a start-up flower company called BloomNation that is revolutionizing the bouquet delivery business.
BloomNation was started by WSOP bracelet winner David Daneshgar along with friends Farbod Shoraka and Gregg Weisstein.
After Daneshgar won a Commerce $1k event in 2011 he decided to use it as a start-up fund for the flower company. Here’s one of the best quotes in article (maybe of all-time):
When Daneshgar collected the $27,000 in prize money later that night, he wasn’t dreaming of cars, parties, or island vacations. Instead, an exhilarating thought crystallized in his mind as he turned to his friends: “It’s flower time.”
Flower time, indeed. So it turns out the critical thinking, people reading and pattern recognition skills you learn from poker can be utilized in a number of other jobs. Who knew.

2) Going Retro with Doyle Brunson, Bobby Baldwin, Lyle Berman
To say Doyle Brunson has had an illustrious poker career would be an understatement.
Brunson is the one of the original roadside gamblers, a 10-time WSOP champion and was even the face of an online poker site.
There is one title we didn’t know he had however: talk show host.
That’s right the Godfather of Poker actually hosted his own show on the Players Network.
The clip below is of an interview Brunson did with Bobby Baldwin and Lyle Berman in the mid-2000s. It’s interesting to hear them discuss the ceiling of poker and when it will peak.
Ahh, the Moneymaker era. Good times.

The latest PokerListings video series dropped today with some compelling evidence that you’re playing too many hands.
The video is adapted from our How to Not Suck at Poker series and is aimed primarily at new poker players.
