The US poker refugee received his FTP balance late last month and has been on an absolute scorcher in the $2,000/$4,000 2-7 Triple Draw games over the last few days.
Cates was nigh-unstoppable on Sunday when he won over $400k from Alexander “PostflopAction” Kostritsyn and then added $220k in the big 6-Max games that were running, according to highstakesdb.com.
The Maryland native was back at it last night winning another $200k from Kostritsyn and $125k in a 6-max 2-7 game against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, Gus Hansen, samrostan and OMGClayAiken.
At the end of the night Cates posted a $387k win, which brings his overall earnings since Sunday up to just over $1 million.
It’s been an outstanding start to the year for Cates as he also won his first major live poker title at the $100k Alpha8 event in South Africa for $500k.
Isildur1 Hit Hardest, Loses $425,819
Meanwhile Isildur1 was the big loser last night, dumping $425,819 to his opponents.
Isildur1 had a fantastic start to 2014 that saw him peak at over $2 million in profit but that’s a distance memory now as he’s been shelled multiple times over the last two months.
The young Scandi has seen his impressive profit dwindle to just $250k with no end in sight.
Fellow Full Tilt Professional Gus Hansen was also a loser last night but it was a relatively small one by his standards. The Great Dane dropped approximately $70k.
