Online poker's $10m man has had a few near misses on the live scene lately but looks in the zone and locked in on his first WPT title this time around.
Moorman soared to 1,731,000 in chips yesterday as the field was whittled down, positioning him in third overall heading into Day 5 today.
He trails only overnight leader Josh Neufeld (2,326,000), who was aided by winning a huge three-way all-in with quad fives, and Glenn Lafaye (1,743,000) as play begins today.
Frequent WPT final-tablist Joe Serock is directly on his heels with 1,596,000, though, so Moorman still has work to do to make the final six.
Tilly Busts, Bruel Hums Along
An unfortunate victim of Neufeld's and Moorman's rise up the ranks yesterday was actress and poker personality Jennifer Tilly.
Coming into the day near the lead and jumping up to 1m in chips early, Tilly crashed back to earth in a big hand against Neufeld late in the day.
A rivered set of Kings crippled Tilly before Moorman finished her stack off shortly after. Tilly ulitmately fell in 22nd place, earning $42,550.
Also hitting the rail on Day 4 were notables Ravi Raghavan (19th), Matt Waxman (26th), Greg Merson (31st), Eugene Katchalov (40th) and Jason Mercier (43rd).
French actor/singer Patrick Bruel was more fortunate, however, making it through to Day 5 with just over 1m in chips. The top 10 and chip counts:
1. Josh Neufeld 2,326,000 2. Glenn Lafaye 1,743,000 3. Chris Moorman 1,731,000 4. Joe Serock 1,596,000 5. Michael Rocco 1,410,000 6. Adam Friedman 1,244,000 7. Patrick Bruel 1,039,000 8. Michael Pickett 847,000 9. Erkut Yilmaz 689,000 10. Ludovic Assouline 672,000Play picks up again at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles this afternoon and will play down to a final table.
