Registration is open until the start of Day 2 but with over 1,000 buy-ins in the books PokerStars’ $10 million-guarantee for the tournament will indeed be met.
In fact, the 2014 PCA will be even bigger than last year’s edition.
Big name poker pros flooded the tournament with Daniel Negreanu, Greg Merson, Antonio Esfandiari, Maria Ho, Jonathan Duhamel, Chris Moneymaker, Matt Salsberg, Scott Seiver, Ana Marquez and Joe Cada among them.
Golfer Sergio Garcia and One Tree Hill Actor Join the Action
Eight-time PGA winner Sergio Garcia, a frequent PCA player, made an appearance but busted mid-way through Day 1b.
One Tree Hill actor Paul Johansson became the latest celebrity to take part in the PCA. Johansson survived the day with a short stack.
There were plenty of players who didn’t, however, as several hundred players were eliminated. Michael Mizrachi, Max Altergott, Paul Volpe, Kevin MacPhee, Russell Thomas, Barry Greenstein, David Williams, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Griffin Benger were among the busted.
Shankar Pillai snagged the overnight chip lead with 173,800 while Noah Boeken (143,000) Greg Merson (90,000) and David “ODB” Baker (118,000) were among the big stacks at the end of play.
Daniel Negreanu, John Racener, Loni Harwood and Jonathan Roy were also among the 448 players to survive the day. They will join the 184 survivors from Day 1a and a total of 632 players will resume play tomorrow.
Day 2 of the 2014 PCA begins at 12 p.m. tomorrow at which point the final prizepool will be announced.
