Today we find a new commitment for 2012 for Phil Galfond, an ambitious plan for Daniel Negreanu and a redistribution of online poker wealth into the crawfish industry.
1) Galfond Taking Responsibility in Poker Seriously in 2012
Despite a few naysayers, a lot of people in the poker industry have clearly taken Matt Glantz’s recent blog about “Responsibility in Poker” to heart.
Fans of online poker icon Phil Galfond will be happy to hear Galfond is one of them.
Galfond has made a pledge to be more open about his life both inside and outside poker and to step up even more in setting a good example for young pros in 2012.
Drawing inspiration from Daniel Negreanu, Phil explains his new outlook in two new blog posts to start the new year:
“I don’t have any delusions about being like Daniel. I’ll never be as outgoing, talkative, or as bold as he is.
“I’ll never be as well-known or liked by the general public (nor do I think I’d want to… it seems hard). I’ll also never have the tournament success Daniel has.
“I just will try to put a little more of myself out there and hope that I can set a good example for some of the young online pros (now that I’m an online dinosaur), and try to play my part in giving online poker players, and all poker players, a better name.”
Negreanu himself tweeted his appreciation for the shout out and a burgeoning Negreanu/Galfond bromance thread has, naturally, already run wild on 2+2.
2) Negreanu Aims High, Offers Piece in $1 Million for One Drop
Speaking of Negreanu, Daniel also recently posted his annual blog about his goals for the year.
In 2010, he set 8 goals and only hit 1. In 2011 he set 10 and hit 3.5. But that apparently hasn’t discouraged him from a) setting more goals and b) aiming extremely high.
Among his goals for 2012 (in random order) are:
Given that he could be on the hook for over $2 million in buy-ins this year, he also selling off pieces of his action for the epic $1 million buy-in tournament at the 2012 WSOP:
“Including the massive $1 million buy in One Drop event at the WSOP this year, as well as going down to Aussie Millions for at least another $100k, I could spend as much as $2 million in buy ins this year!
“That's a crazy thought. I'm not planning on putting the whole million up for the One Drop event and am looking to sell probably $600,000 worth of pieces.
I am considering doing it via twitter and Full Contact Poker, allowing people to buy a piece of me for as little as $120! If that happens, I'll obviously post details.”

3) Dang Brothers Redistribute Poker Money to Crawfish Community
Once one of the most feared duos in all of high-stakes online poker, the notorious Dang brothers, Di and Hac, haven't been seen much at the tables over the last year.
High-stakes pros looking to get back any of the $15 million lost to the brothers over the years are likely out of luck as they've apparently poured that money into a Crawfish restaurant.
Called "Chasing Tails," the restuarant is adhering to the time-tested American restaurant standby of food, friends, family and fun.
