Today in the 3-Bet we find the 2013 WCOOP blowing the doors off of its guarantees, Marvin Rettenmaier and Alex Livingston involved in a heartstopping chop in the WSOP Main Event and Ashton "theASHMAN102" Griffin letting us in on what's in store at the BOM Boot Camp.
1) 2013 WCOOP Crushes Guarantees by $10m
There's not much more to say about the first 10 days of the 2013 World Championship on PokerStars than wow.
Heading to the halfway point of the 66-event series guarantees are being crushed daily with $26 million in prize money doled out so far.
That's about $10m - $10m! - over the guarantees.
The first 30 events have also seen 87,000 entries, a 24% increase on buy-ins over last year. Super, super sick.
Among the big-name pros to take advantage so far:
Jason Mercier (chopped four-handed in Event #24 for $230k) Toby Lewis, (won Event #6 for $189k) Liv Boeree (fifth in Event #5 for $15k) David Bach (won Event 21 for $51k) UK crusher Stephen Chidwick (won Event #29 for $19k).To get a piece of the remaining action including the $8.5m Guaranteed Main Event, sign up for a PokerStars account here.
2) Rettenmaier Gets Chopped Up on Day 5 of WSOP ME
After a two-week hiatus ESPN's coverage of the 2013 WSOP Main Event returned last night and we couldn't be happier.
Marvin Rettenmaier, however, might not have been as happy to relive a sick Day 5 hand that twisted and turned in classic, gut-wrenching poker form. Alex Livingston probably still feels a bit bad about it too.
Check the hand and latest episode below (hand starts at 14:00); catch up with previous episodes here.
3) Griffin on BOM Boot Camp: Expect Emphasis on Bet-Sizing
If you watched that WSOP clip above you would have seen an appearance by one Ashton Griffin. Playing online under the name "theASHMAN103," Griffin is one of the biggest winners ever online - and has one of the craziest backstories.
Coming off an extended break from poker Griffin re-emerged at this year's WSOP and went deep before busting in 118th. And we couldn't be more excited he's back and using some of his time to be one of the instructors at the BOM Boot Camp.
Along with Dan "Jungleman12" Cates, Max "AltiFC" Altergott and Johannes "Psier" Strassman, Griffin with be sharing some of the secrets of his PLO success and explained to highstakesdb what attendees can expect:
"They should expect heavy emphasis on bet sizing (specifically on dry textures), frequencies(learning how to use logic and info to accurately predict value bet/bluffing frequencies.) and of course the giant elephant in the room; math.
"By the end they will feel confident bout playing more hands and have a better understanding for the question 'why?' What's even better is that they will have plenty of time to intake this information."
We'll be there with our note pads. Check out more from Cates, Altergott and Griffin here. More on BOM Boot Camp here.
