Today in the 3-Bet we find Daniel Negreanu denied the coveted #1 ranking on the Global Poker Index, Ben Affleck not doing online poker a favor in his Runner, Runner promo and a poker-pro rush on Montréal for a taste of some of that WCOOP money.
1) Germans Resist Negreanu Invasion on GPI
Nicht so schnell, herr Negreanu.
The poker world got all excited this week (ourselves included) when ol' Kid Poker declared himself #1 on the new Global Poker Index Player of the Year rankings. Turns out he overlooked a young German wunderkind named Ole Schemion.
In the new GPI rankings released yesterday, Schemion - a 2013 PokerListings Spirit of Poker Award nominee - actually took over #1 in the POY race thanks to his own impressive runs at EPT Barcelona.
Holding the the chip lead at some point in all three of the major events, Schemion finished sixth in both the Super High Roller and High Roller (and cashed the main) to snatch the #1 spot away from Negreanu.
Also a point of note - Schemion is still too young to play any tournaments in the US. Kid is a stone killer.
As for the overall GPI Top 300 Negreanu also has to settle for #2 there behind German Marvin Rettenmaier, who leapfrogged Jason Mercier for #1.

2) Affleck Calls Online Poker "Crack"
So, ah, this can't be good.
We found a small featurette about the new online poker-themed thriller Runner, Runner and, well, it doesn't look like a pretty picture painted of online poker. Watch below:

3) Pros Zero in on Montreal for WCOOP
As any self-respecting online poker fan knows the 2013 WCOOP is underway on PokerStars with 66 events across a dozen disciplines and, oh, $40m or so on the table.
If you want a cut of the action and you're an American player, though, that still means you have to be somewhere outside of US borders to play. We have high hopes that won't be the same in 2014 (no thanks to you, Affleck.)
Pros have scattered far and wide to get a taste of the action, but as you can see from Twitter the top pick this year seems to be Montréal.
Can't say we blame them. Have you been to Montréal in September? Zut alors.
