Middleton, known as "hitthehole" online, controlled the chip lead from Day 3 of the marquee event and showed few if any signs of wekaness in locking down his first majot title.

Agreeing to a deal heads-up with Finn Kimmo Kurko, Middleton left with €942,000 - just over €100k less than the original first-place prize.

Kurko, who along with Pasi Surmonen carried on the Finnish tradition of wearing a sparkly trilbie at the final table, took home €750,000.

For a recap of all the final-table action, check the PokerStars blog. The official final nine and payouts:

1. Thomas Middleton, United Kingdom -- €942,000 2. Kimmo Kurko, Finland -- €750,000 3. Kresten Nielsen, Denmark -- €440,500 4. Luca Fiorini, Italy -- €328,000 5. Pasi Sormunen, Finland -- €253,000 6. Negreanu Loses Massive Chip Lead but Tops GPI

Negreanu: Couldn't finish but still hit #1.

Over on the final table of the €10k High Roller the story was first the German whiz kid Ole Schemion and then Daniel Negreanu before Muhlocker took the crown back to Austria.

Schemion started off the final table blazing, eliminating the first three players himself before running into trouble against Negreanu.

Just after busting Richard Yong in 7th Schemion got it in with a flush draw against Negreanu's top set. No help came and all of a sudden Negreanu took control of the table while Schemion faded out in sixth.

Dominating play afterwards, Negreanu had a commanding lead three-handed with 7m of the 9m chips in play but couldn't close it out.

He busted Jean-Noel Thorel in third but ran pocket fours into bigger Muhlocker overpairs twice before running AQ into AK to end it.

Muhlocker earned €390,700 for the win while Negreanu took home €263,800. More significant than the money for Negreanu the runner-up finish will push him into the #1 spot on the Global Poker Index POY rankings.

WOW! Just found out I am #1 on the @GlobalPokerIndx I can't believe it! So happy and in shock. Wow wow wow!!! Very proud right now!
