If you have a suggestion for a future 3-Bet piece, leave us a note in the comments below.
In today’s 3-Bet we’ll take a look at a certain Russian crushing WPT Merit Cyprus, Rafael Nadal’s plans to play EPT Prague and our upcoming Xuan Liu mini doc.
1) Rybin Goes Wire-to-Wire at WPT Merit Cyprus
It’s not often you see the chip leader on every day of a poker tournament go on to win but that’s exactly what Alexey Rybin accomplished at WPT Merit Cyprus today.
The Russian tore his way through the 262-player field to take down the $258,000 first-place prize.
Although Rybin entered the final table as the chip leader with 2.6 million he actually had a few scares on his way to victory.
At one point Rybin was short and moved all-in with ace-king versus opponent Kayhan Tugrul’s ace-ten.
Fortunately for Rybin the superior hand held and he went on to make a big comeback and eventually beat Alber Daher heads-up.
This is Rybin’s first major score although he came close in 2010 when he finished fifth at EPT San Remo for $366,833.
Poker-stat nuts will note this is the first time someone has gone wire-to-wire at a WPT event since Kevin Saul won the Bellagio Cup in 2008.
2) Checking in with Xuan Liu in Toronto
If you haven’t heard we’re featuring Xuan Liu in an upcoming episode of our Easy Game video series.
Yesterday we started the shoot on location in Toronto and we're confident it's going to be a good one. Could have something to do with the mega-talented subject.
For past Easy Game features check out Shaun Deeb, Griffin Benger or Dan “jungleman12” Cates.
Here’s a sneak peek at the Liu shoot from her Instagram:
3) Rafael Nadal to Make Live Poker Debut at EPT Prague
So you’re telling me there’s a chance?
Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, who’s been with PokerStars awhile now, has yet to play a live tournament but that may change soon.
According to a post on the PokerStars Blog, Nadal may make an appearance at EPT Prague this year.
Rafa is currently preparing for the U.S. Open in New York but has plans to hit the poker circuit in his offseason.
Keep in mind that the PokerStars Blog simply stated Nadal might play an event at EPT Prague and didn’t specify if it was the Main Event.
In the meantime you can check out this video of Nadal learning poker that PokerStars released today:
