As always you can leave a suggestion for a future 3-Bet piece in the comments section below.
Today in the 3-Bet we’re taking a look at the science of poker, Ellen Page BFF Alex Livingston and a baller Andrew Robl Tweet.
1) Wall Street Journal on the Science of Winning at Poker
The Wall Street Journal has a nice piece up this week that delves into the technical side of poker.
It’s a refreshing take on poker for a mainstream outlet because it focuses on the math behind the game.
While fairly rudimentary the article does a good job of illustrating the skill involved in the game, instead of just the romantic bluffing aspect.
The piece cites poker strategists David Sklansky and Phil Galfond and the growing movement away from memorizing formulas and the new focus on ranges.
The article also makes a point that poker strategy has advanced rapidly over the last 10 years because the sheer number of people playing the game has skyrocketed.
It’s definitely worth reading and we suggest you check out the entire article here.
Either way, it’s probably going to piss off Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson while he’s perusing his latest copy of the Journal.
2) Alex Livingston on Growing Up BFF with Ellen Page
Clik here to view.

Halifax’s Alex Livingston was one of the breakout stars at this year’s WSOP Main Event.
While Livingston eventually fell in 13th place his charisma at the tables didn’t go unnoticed and he was recently featured in an article by the HalifaxNewsNet.
Livingston talked about the massive amount of pressure behind making a deep run in the Main Event, the psychology behind poker and what he’s going to do with the $450k he won for coming in 13th.
He also discussed growing up with celebrity Ellen Page. The pair were best friends during high school and even attempted to form a dog-walking business in 2002, while they were still teenagers.
Livingston went on to say that while he talks to Page occasionally, they’ve lost touch somewhat over the years.
“I think that’s largely my fault, actually,” he admitted in the article.
Bit of advice for Livingston: Ellen Page is delightful. Pick up the phone more often.
Here’s a video we did with Livingston during the Main Event:
3) Andrew Robl Leaves $3k in Laundry, Housekeeper Returns it
You might be making too much money if you keep accidentally leaving thousands of dollars in your laundry. Just saying.
That’s exactly what happened to Robl according to a recent Tweet:
You know you have an amazing honest housekeeper when she comes and hands you 3k she found in the dryer. #cleanmoneypic.twitter.com/n7zXiFeAo4
