Any tips for a future 3-Bet feel free to drop a note in the comments and we’ll take a look.
Today in the 3-Bet we find the first action from the first-ever WSOP Asia-Pacific hitting the airwaves (with PokerListings featured, no less), Daniel Negreanu calling Tom Dwan overrated and Phil Hellmuth paying the ultimate poker-insider compliment to Shaun Deeb.
1) WSOP on ESPN Begins: Negreanu Rules, PokerListings Moments
The long, televised march to the November Nine began this week on ESPN with the premier episode covering Daniel Negreanu’s run to the first-ever WSOP Asia Pacific main event title.
Thanks to our role as exclusive WSOP APAC content partners this year, PokerListings featured prominently on the broadcast.
Our footage and interviews from all the preliminary events were condensed into a couple of segments called "PokerListings Bracelet Moments" and interspersed over the two-hour show.
Bracelet winners Bryan Piccioli, Jim Collopy, Phil Ivey and Aaron Lim naturally made appearances and seeing our name up on the screen accompanied by the dulcet tones of ESPN icons Lon McEachern and Norman Chad was a thrill.
The action and table banter with Negreanu, Russell Thomas, a spewing Benny Spindler, Winfred Yu and Mikel Habb (aka the villain from Kindergarten Cop) was also delightful. Watch the coverage starting with Part 1 below:
2) Negreanu on Dwan: ‘I don’t think Tom is one of the best”
Speaking of the aforementioned Negreanu… Never one to hold back on opinion, Negreanu let loose on an unexpected subject -- Tom “durrr” Dwan -- in a new interview released by pokerplayer.co.uk yesterday.
Perhaps tilted by Dwan’s disregard for his time at the FTP-PokerStars challenge (when the interview was done), Negreanu went off on Dwan’s exaggerated rep as one of the game’s best:
“I don’t think Tom is one of the best [in the world],” Negreanu said.
“I don’t know if he ever was. He got elevated after his appearances on High Stakes Poker because he ran well and played well, but realistically he doesn’t put in the time or practice playing now [to be one of the best in the world]."
Top players “all lick their lips when they think about playing Dwan heads-up,” Negreanu added.
Boom. Take that, durrrrballs!
Lots more great stuff in the interview here -- and props to writer Ross Jarvis for the great piece (and great headline).
3) Hellmuth Calls Deeb “Young Chip Reese”
So, this just happened:
@shaundeeb starting to remind me of young Chip Reese. Consistent, wins big $$$, plays all games well & makes u smile when u lose to him!
— phil_hellmuth (@phil_hellmuth) July 25, 2013We can think of a lot of compliments and/or lip service paid among top pros when asked but when it comes to poker praise it just doesn't get any higher than that.
We’re huge Shaun Deeb fans here at PokerListings and hearing that from Hellmuth puts Deeb on a level even we may have underestimated.
Needless to say we’re curious how Phil Ivey’s Twitter puppet will respond (bets are on “I’m currently playing on Ivey Poker. Come find me!" though).
