Boatman put on a masterful performance at the final table of WSOP Event 49 $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em to win $546,080.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said an emotional Boatman after winning. “I’ve had lots of success over the years but I’ve never won a title like this.”
Boatman has been playing WSOP events since the late 1990s, well before the poker boom.
The Brit survived an epic heads-up battle against Brian O’Donoghue that saw the chip lead trade back and forth several times.

Raucous Brits Cheer Boatman to Victory
Boatman had one of the liveliest rails of the entire summer, which included plenty of Brits and brother Ross Boatman.
“It means everything they were here,” he said. “I think it’s because of them that I won, honestly.”
The raucous Brits were sent into overdrive when Boatman won the final hand in a coin flip with pocket tens over O’Donoghue’s ace-queen.
The tens held and English fans swarmed over the rail to embrace Boatman. It was the perfect moment for Boatman.
“Sam Trickett, Chris Moorman and all the young English players are good lads,” he said. “They conduct themselves well. It makes me really proud.”
Despite all the young English talent in the poker world these days, Boatman was the first player to take down a bracelet for the U.K. this year.
