A total of 166 runners signed up for the massive event making it one of the most well-attended high-rollers in the history of poker.
Although the tournament was initially billed as an amateur-heavy event, the final field looked decidedly more pro-heavy with big name pros Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier, Antonio Esfandiari and Tom Dwan all buying into the action.
Twenty-four spots will pay out with a min-cash coming in at $173,723. The last player standing will receive $4.8 million.
One Drop Beats GDAM as Richest Tournament of 2013
The One Drop event narrowly edged out the competing Guangdong Asia Millions high roller from earlier this month which amassed a prizepool of just over $15 million.
Strangely, Phil Hellmuth, who finished fourth in last year’s massive $1 million Big One for One Drop for $2.6 million, failed to turn up for this year’s One Drop event.
Meanwhile Vanessa Selbst and businesswoman Kathy Lehne were the only women who decided to take a shot in the big tournament. Lehne busted in the first two levels, leaving Selbst as the last woman standing.
As of 7 p.m. PT, Matt Glantz, Selbst, Antonio Esfandiari and German Martin Finger were among the chip leaders.
