It was Albert Einstein who said that doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results was the definition of insanity and I for one respect that man’s thoughts on life.
It’s just a pity that Diaz and the casino establishments of Las Vegas don’t share my sentiments.
Diaz recently told his 1,000+ twitter followers, and the rest of the poker world, that he had been banned for life from all Caesars owned hotels and casinos after getting blind drunk at Carnaval Court.
The incident apparently created enough upset to lead to the most powerful of sanctions.
Looks like I'm kicked out of all harrahs property's right before dinner break with a 100bb fml no main event this year.
— david diaz (@david901diaz) June 12, 2013Because I was so drunk and harassing ppl at carnival court the other night but I don't remember any of this fml
— david diaz (@david901diaz) June 12, 2013The lifetime ban means that Diaz will never again be allowed to play at the WSOP as long as the show continues to be hosted at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino, or any other property belonging to Caesars. The worst possible sanction for a professional poker player.
But will the ban result in a likewise ban for Diaz and alcohol? Will the young man who survived his fight with cancer, and had his arm amputated during the process, stop drinking as a result of an incident that has made him cry and go onto Twitter begging people to let him back inside the Rio?
Not gonna lie I did cry a little getting kicked out of the rio and will cry more tonight fml
— david diaz (@david901diaz) June 12, 2013Please let me back in the Rio I am sorry please let me back in the Rio I am sorry please let me back in the Rio I am sorry I need the @wsop
— david diaz (@david901diaz) June 13, 2013There isn’t a cat in hells chance that Diaz will stop drinking as a result of his dilemma. Societal conditioning is so strong when it comes to our views on alcohol, that this will be seen as an unavoidable consequence of drinking?
But why drink in the first place?
Diaz will tell you that he drinks because it enables him to have a good time. Do you think he is having a good time now? The problem with alcohol and its place in society is it shortens people’s view on life. People choose to ignore the long-term devastation and just big up the short-term illusion of joy.
If people choose to drink alcohol then they are going to have to suffer the consequences. His removal from the WSOP has nothing to do with his performance at Carnaval Court and everything to do with a society that sells a story to our children that drinking alcohol is a perfectly acceptable way of life.
And how dare Caesars ban anyone from a casino when they give their alcohol away for free? Why would any business give alcohol away for free? Of course we all know the answer. It’s because they want people like Diaz to get drunk, so they can take all of his money.
So how dare you ban him!
But Caesars are just as dull as the rest of society. Caesars also believes they can control alcohol, but they can’t. There isn’t a single night that passes with time where the security in Caesars doesn’t have to deal with a newt that has been drinking free booze all night long. It’s the same up and down the strip. Reap what you sow ladies and gentlemen… reap what you sow.
Something tells me that this lifetime ban will soon be changed to something less severe. Those joining the ‘Free Lefty’ campaign will generate enough sway to get Diaz back playing poker at the WSOP in double quick time.
After all, they have never banned Phil Hellmuth, and are you telling me that some of his past outbursts don’t fall into the category of hyper-aggressive drunk?
