Today on the 3-Bet we bring you news of an alcohol and food truck fueled party just outside the doors of the WSOP, Amnon Filippi getting special permission to travel to Las Vegas plus four new signings from legal US online poker site Ultimate Poker.
Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet can be left in the comment section below.
1) Food Trucks, Beer Pong Spice Up WSOP
Sometimes people come up with ideas that feel like they should have been implemented years ago.
Today the WSOP set up beer pong tables and called in food trucks to the area usually used by cigarette smokers on break.
And we have to commend them on making a spot-on decision.
Players, staff and media have flocked to the event, lured by free booze and food cooked in the back of trucks. Even WSOP Vice-President Ty Stewart was on the scene schooling opponents on the finer points of beer pong.
We're hoping it's not a one-off because it was a welcome change from the clouds of cigarette smoke and tales of bad beats that usually dominate that area of the Rio.
And we're pretty sure poker pro Griffin Benger feels the same way since he's been out there since busting the $5k 8-Max event in 16th place a couple hours ago.
2) Filippi Playing WSOP Despite Federal Drug Charges
If you've spent any time on the pro poker circuit you'll know smoking pot is about as common as wearing a hoody and sunglasses at the table.
Must have something to do with the fact that most of the players learned to play over endless hours spent at their computers in their parents' basements.
But despite the drug's ubiquitous presence, one poker pro has gotten into serious hot water over his involvement with it.
New York-based grinder Amnon Filippi is lucky to be at the World Series of Poker, considering he's facing federal indictments on the East Coast for conspiring to distribute marijuana.
Filippi has earned more than $3 million playing live poker tournaments and his lawyer argued that since he needs to travel to poker events to earn a living, his travel restrictions should be relaxed.
Judge Ronnie Abrams agreed and Filippi has since taken trips to Atlantic City, Los Angeles, San Jose and Las Vegas.
The story ran on NYDailyNews.com and goes on to say Filippi was released on a quarter-million dollar personal recognicance bond.
3) Somerville, Little, Reynolds, Kling Join UltimatePoker
It looks like the first-to-market Ultimate Poker is taking its lead from IveyPoker with a new batch of pro-signings from the World Series of Poker.
Jason Somerville, Jonathan Little, Will Reynolds and Lauren Kling all announced their new sponsorships via Twitter, and they'll all be wearing the UP patch as they compete in the 2013 World Series of Poker.
They'll join the likes of Antonio Esfandiari and Terrence Chan who were among UP's first batch of brand ambassadors.
Somerville, a WSOP bracelet winner and the first openly gay man in poker, tweeted a picture of himself with Dana White of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Somerville has a reputation for being a massive MMA fan and Ultimate Poker is owned by the Fertitta brothers, who also own the UFC and Stations Casinos.
Ultimate Poker was the first and so far only online poker site to offer legal real-money poker in the United States.
They will soon be joined by WSOPonline.com and a number of other online poker operators seeking licenses from the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
