Finishing as runner-up at EPT London Season 8 to Benny Spindler, O'Dwyer - who's been on an epic tear in tournaments with 19 final tables in just 17 months - has a chance to do one better this time around.
Thanks to a big last few levels on Day 4, O'Dwyer enters the final table with 5,270,00 chips - almost 2m ahead of second-place Ruben Visser.
Should O'Dwyer take it down he'll add an almost absurd £700,000 to his tournament haul over the past year and a half.
Still at least two other great pros, each with their own great story arc, stand in his way.
Jorgensen, Moorman Join in Final 8
For those who have followed Theo Jorgensen's path back to normalcy after his terrifying December home invasion, you'll know it's been a slow climb.
The fact he's made a deep run in his return to live poker, and a final table no less, is an epic storyline in its own right.
He'll have a chance to make the story even better tomorrow as he'll begin the day fifth in chips at 1,550,000 - well within hopes of making a play for the title.
Also making the final table with a chance for an epic finish is local British hope Chris Moorman.
The greatest online MTTer of all time, Moorman has yet to win a major live tour title and finished runner-up in the WSOPE Main Event only after it was moved from London to Cannes.
The chance to win his first big live tournament on home turf will certainly bring out a loud and boisterous rail at the final table in support.
The final 8 and chip counts:
1. Steve O'Dwyer 5,270,000 2. Ruben Visser 3,640,000 3. Olof Haglund 2,755,000 4. Christopher Frank 2,570,000 5. Theo Jorgensen 1,550,000 6. Mantas Visockis 1,510,000 7. Chris Moorman 1,075,000 8.
