Weekly UK 3-Bet: Boatman Flies, Trickett Fumes, Silver Steaked

Any ideas for a future 3-Bet feel free to drop a note in the comments.

This week in the UK 3-Bet we find British poker legend Barny Boatman flying the flag at the European Nations Cup, golden boy Sam Trickett taking a bit of time off from poker to, we suppose, count his money, and Max Silver in pursuit of the perfect steak.

1) Barny Boatman Leads England in Europe

Barny Boatman is going to be wearing the armband when the English team travel to Cyprus for the European Nations Cup next week.

The tournament hosted by the International Federation of Poker (IFP) will feature 14-teams and the event will truly be a one of a kind.

In a nutshell, there will be no dealers, no cards and players of each team will be seated in the same seat on different tables, but will receive identical hole cards.

All of this bizarre action will be managed by the IFP Match Poker technology, with players receiving their hole card information via smartphone.

The format is called ‘Match Poker’ and is similar to Duplicate Bridge.

The English team is Daiva Barauskaite, Karl Mahrenholz, Ben Roberts, John Eames, Neil Channing, Ross Boatman and ‘Bobby Moore’ himself, Barny Boatman.

2) Trickett Running on Fumes

After taking the runner-up spot in the PartyPoker Premier League VI, Sam Trickett went onto Twitter to tell his fans that he has decided to take a much-needed break from poker.

Decided 2 have much needed break from poker.Played everyday this year, mentally drained and exhausted. My game has suffered this week big time

— Sam Trickett (@Samtrickett1) March 24, 2013

Considering we are only four months into the New Year and Trickett has clocked in over $2.3 million in earnings, I don’t see why he doesn’t take the next 10 years off.

But whatever you do Sam, don’t try and become a celebrity chef.

3) Silver Steak

OK so we don’t advocate that young Trickett tries his arm at being the next Gordon Ramsay, but Max Silver is a different story entirely.

The man ranked in 13th spot in the GPI UK charts is a self-confessed ‘foodie,’ and has turned his blog away from poker offerings and instead concentrated on his quest for the perfect steak.

“I served the steak with oven baked sweet potato fries, seasoned with Old Bay seasoning (the nuts!), Caesar salad with bacon and pull apart rosemary honey dinner rolls” Silver stated.

Once a poker player always a poker player!

That was so Egon Ronay until he wrote the word ‘nuts’.

Shame on you Silver!
