This week in the UK 3-Bet we find five British grinders working towards an ambitious goal for 2013, a tragic poker-related story coming to its conclusion in the US and Jake Cody finding it's not all autographs and photo requests when you're at the top of the game.
1) Another $1 Million Poker Goal
It might not be original, but if it helps pull ordinary folk into the world of poker then it will do for me.
"5 Poker Players, 1 Year, $1 Million" -- That’s the mantra of a small band of poker warriors from London who make their living playing Heads-Up Sit n Go’s (HUSNGS) on the PokerStars network.
The team consists of Flippetyflop, Giabest, Millz_UK, MocaChoca89 and RocMar87.
I caught up with Flippetyflop and MocaChoca89, AKA Leon Louis and Ryan O’Donnell, during WPT Vienna. Louis was eliminated on Day 1 and ended up in casualty after celebrating a little bit too hard, but MocaChoca89 strolled into Day 3 in third place with just 44 players remaining.
Here is Mocachoca89 explaining about the Whynotgrind goal in his video blog. Updates on the goal progress can be found at whynotgrind.com.
2) British Poker Player Pleads Guilty
A tragic poker-related story came out of the woodwork this week as British poker player Marcus Bebb-Jones pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the United States -- 16 years after his wife Sabrina Bebb-Jones went missing near Douglas Pass in Colorado.
In 2007, Bebb-Jones qualified for the William Hill Poker Grand Prix II, where he played on Sky TV in a heat that featured both Johnny Lodden and Ross Boatman.
He later went on to win the Grosvenor Grand Prix of poker for $184,370.
Bebb-Jones is from Kidderminster in Worcestershire and was extradited to the United States in 2011 before entering his guilty plea.
The remains of his missing wife were found in 2004 in Douglas Pass, Colorado. Bebb-Jones is due to be sentenced on May 1.
3) Jake Cody Gets a New Fan
Jake Cody is the new wave of new wave in poker. Male and female fans alike adore the youngest Triple Crown winner in history and newest PokerStars cover boy.
But even Justin Bieber has his haters right?
Haters gonna hate lol? instagr.am/p/WArOwbQyj0/
