Today in the 3-Bet we find an unsettling cancer diagnosis for poker legend Doyle Brunson, Chris Moorman crushing again at the UKIPT Online final and President Barack Obama’s re-election ticking off several boxes for poker’s future in America.
1) Doyle Brunson Diagnosed w/ Malignant but Treatable Cancer
There are several dozen truly incredible things you can say about Doyle Brunson and the things he’s seen and overcome in his life.
Beating cancer three times already is surely one of them.
Defeating an “incurable” malignant cancer in the early 60s, Brunson has had two more scares since and unfortunately has just been diagnosed with a fourth.
It was malignant. 4 times I have heard that in my life.Chilling way to start the day. Squamas cell cancer, nothing to worry about.#yeahright
— Doyle Brunson (@TexDolly) November 6, 2012While there’s not quite “nothing” to worry about, Squamous-cell carcinoma is very treatable.
Tx 4 the support about the cancer. It's a slow growth type that is usually okBut it's something you had rather not hear.#beentheredonethat
— Doyle Brunson (@TexDolly) November 6, 2012Best to Texas Dolly for a safe and successful treatment.
2) Chris Moorman Heads-Up for UKIPT Online/Live Title
He’s a master of online play and a burgeoning dominator of live play so it’s no surprise Chris “Moorman1” Moorman is battling for the first-ever UKIPT Online/Live championship.
A split-format event, the first two days of the 550-player event played online in October and the final eight met for a live final table at the UKIPT Bristol festival today.
With the final eight trimmed to seven because of a visa problem for a Russian player, Moorman raced fairly smoothly to heads-up play where he's squaring off against Wojtek Barzantny, a 24-year-old student from Germany.
If he wins, Moorman will add another £77,126 onto his already massive earnings pile and take home the inaugural UKIPT Online main event trophy. Runner-up will earn £55,471.
Among the other notable final-tablists were Uruguayan Rafael 'zugzwang16' Porzecanski, Dutchman Joep 'Pappe_Ruk' van den Bijgaart and Irishman Dan 'danloulou' Smyth.

UPDATE: Moorman busted in second after a four-hour heads-up battle. He doesn't seemed too fussed about it though:
Got 2nd again for £49k! Can't complain after being 6/6 earlier. Ended losing a flip for 3/1 lead. Congrats to wojtek he played gr8 #nxttime
— Chris Moorman (@Moorman1) November 7, 20123) Obama Re-Election, Senate Majority Bodes Well for Poker
Well, it might anyway.
Poker players on the edge of their seats for last night’s election can breathe a little bit easier this morning after President Obama’s decisive re-election.
As we said in our election preview piece, it’s not a sure thing we’ll see online poker at the federal level during Obama’s second term.
Still, it can’t hurt to have a guy who actually plays and likes poker in the White House over a conservative Mormon who hates it.
More importantly last night, the Democratic majority in the Senate even grew slightly (55-45) so the leadership of Sen. Harry Reid will continue.
Reid, as you probably know, is one of the initiators of the Reid/Kyl bill that hopes to carve out poker from the UIGEA.
It’s still a low-priority issue for the Democrats and a relative longshot to be pushed forward quickly, but it does look better this morning for its eventual implementation than it would if it was getting kicked off the bus entirely by the Romney administration.
Let poker ring, Democratic overlords. Let poker ring.
