Lodden, Weisner Among Day 2 Casualties
The first name-player to go broke as play picked up momentum this afternoon in Italy was US pro Melanie Weisner who coasted into Day 2 with just nine big blinds.
Weisner open-shoved on the very first hand of the day with A♥ 8♥ but couldn’t win a flip against Alfonso Donnarumma’s pocket fives.
Team PokerStars Pro and online high-stakes pioneer Johnny Lodden didn’t fare much better, getting coolered in a flush-over-flush setup to lose most of his stack and going bust shortly after.
Lodden’s teammate Angel Guillen lasted longer but also went broke before the day was done, dispatched by yet another member of Team PokerStars Pro.
Guillen was short and open-shoved with K-J, running headfirst into Theo Jorgensen’s A-K. Jorgensen was later eliminated, losing a flip with A-Q against pocket eights.
Also eliminated on Day 2 were JC Alvarado, Yuval Bronshtein, Gaelle Baumann, Keven Stammen, David Baker, Martin Jacobsen, David Peters and Andrew Teng.
Day 3 begins tomorrow in San Remo as the remaining players fight their way into the money. Keep an eye on our Poker News Section for continuing updates.
